Omega introduces the all-new Speedmaster Calibre 321 in its first major release in 2022, complete with vintage details and a beautiful 18K Canopus gold design. When this legendary collection was first launched in 1957, it changed the face of chronograph watchmaking forever. Designed for professional racing drivers, this watch is legible and easy to use, and is the first watch in the world to feature a tachymeter scale on the bezel instead of the dial. This feature is ideal for measuring average speeds on the track and complements the watch’s robust, high-precision and water-resistant design.
Inspired by the first Speedmaster CK2915-1, the watch released today celebrates the collection’s 65th anniversary with a unique 38.6mm case in 18K Canopus Gold™. This exclusive material is Omega’s proprietary white gold alloy, which is characterized by high brightness, whiteness and durability. Watch connoisseurs can also spot the NAIAD symbol on the crown of the watch, which was specifically used to indicate the water resistance of some early CK2915 models.
For the ultimate contrast, the watch features a jet black onyx dial with a vintage Omega logo and an oval “O” – a detail typical of earlier CK2915 models. There are also Canopus Gold™ PVD treated 18K white gold hands and hour-markers, as well as three classic Speedmaster subdials, including small seconds display, 30-minute and 12-hour chronograph counters, and a central chronograph function.
Of course, the famous tachymeter scale is also included. The bezel is filled with black “Grand Feu” enamel, and if you look closely, you’ll also find two of the original Speedmaster’s most collectible details: the famous over 90 (DON) dots and the diagonal seventy.
Perhaps the most coveted is the famous movement inside the watch. The Calibre 321 is the original movement used by the Speedmaster in 1957. It also powered watches worn during Apollo missions, including all six moon landings in history. since In 2019, OMEGA put the Calibre 321 back into production, taking care to keep all true specifications. The addition of this new edition gives the watch additional provenance and a real connection to the Speedmaster heritage.
Turn the watch to pay tribute to the collection’s anniversary. Since 1957, the OMEGA Seahorse has been engraved as Speedmaster’s trademark symbol – placed on the inside of the sapphire crystal. His eyes are made of sparkling blue sapphire, a precious gem traditionally celebrated for its 65th anniversary. The Speedmaster Calibre 321 is mounted on an 18K Canopus Gold™ bracelet with a comfortable release adjustment system and is housed in a special wooden case. Created to commemorate the collection’s 65th anniversary with a mahogany-like pattern, the box’s shape and design was inspired by the original Speedmaster box the customer received in 1957.
