Jan Frodeno’s mission: a full ironman-distance triathlon at home

Jan Frodeno, a member of the Breitling triathlon team, is one of the sport’s brightest stars. he wants gold Medal at the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics and three IRONMAN® World Championships. This is clearly a man who can rise to the challenge. In a year when the COVID-19 pandemic has caused virtually all sporting events to be cancelled, Frodeno competed in a Tri@Home on Saturday, April 11, 2020, swimming an incredible 3.8 kilometers , rode 180km and ran 42km, the full IRONMAN® distance he could cover under normal IRONMAN® outdoor conditions. He did it in the training room at his home in Girona, Spain. Jan Frodeno took the opportunity to raise money for two charities in Girona: Coronavirus Support and Sports for the Disabled. Breitling is proud to donate three very special watches to support the initiative of its triathlon team members, who have raised an incredible €220,000 on Monday night.

Triathlon and IRONMAN® superstar Jan Frodeno typically prepares for the sport’s major events this time of year, including the IRONMAN® World Championships in Hawaii, which he won three times. The COVID-19 pandemic changed his plans, as it led to the cancellation of nearly all outdoor activities and the lockdown of Frodino’s adoption home in Girona, Spain. The Breitling triathlon team member has no fear in announcing that he will be participating in the “Family Triathlon” and will take the opportunity to raise funds for two Girona-based charities, including one dedicated to support during COVID -19 The local health community crisis has been prescribed. 19 crisis and another to empower young people with disabilities by engaging them in sport.

Triathlon enthusiasts around the world were able to accompany Frodeno and his “triathlon at home” online
and could even ride along with him virtually as he completed the 180-kilometer bike ride. Breitling provided an online digital timer that was displayed on the screen during the live broadcast. The brand also donated three watches, available through Jan Frodeno’s online store, in support of their triathlon squad members’ unusual challenges. One of them is the Breitling Superocean Automatic 44 IRONMAN® Limited Edition that Jan wears on the podium at Kona and during the virtual rides of the “At-Home Triathlon”. Unsurprisingly, the extraordinary watch sold out shortly after it was posted online. By Monday night, the Tri@Home event had brought in an incredible €220,000. everyone Those who do not have the opportunity to support the mission can still do so and will be eligible to win the main prize, an exclusive training day in Spain with Jan Frodeno! Of course, the obvious question is how is it possible to swim 3.8 km and cycle 180 km, Run 42 kilometers at home. Jan Frodeno has found a solution: he swims in an indoor pool equipped with a countercurrent system. He then hopped on his trainer, which combined with the Zwift Turbo Trainer Game app allowed him to virtually ride with other participants around the world. Eventually, he got on a treadmill to run a marathon.

Jan Frodeno completed this daunting challenge in 8 hours 33 minutes 37 seconds, showing the world that even in difficult, uncertain times, it is possible to stay true to your mission of inspiring people around the world and supporting worthy causes .
