How were those first years of approach to music?

Well my music comes from blood, my father is a great guitarist of vallenato folklore very good! I grew up among so many musicians and artists that it’s impossible not to carry that in my blood. Then I did it with my travels and when I came to live in Bogotá, but my music comes from my father at the age of my father Luis Martínez

How much does having a musician father affect your life?

Well, it’s everything! My father was the one I first heard a guitar note to and for him, it was important to know that it was a party, that it was a party. Listen to boleros, classic vallenatos, salsa, Son; I think it influences everything, He is the most important reference I have.

You might think that vallenato in Chabuco’s voice has another style, another cadence and another rhythmic language?

I think another rhyme suddenly yes, another rhythmic sense, but it is my peasant voice (my voice is native to my town Valledupar). Everyone who hears my songs sing (vallenato, bolero or a danzón) knows that I come from there, from the land of vallenato. So I think it’s rhythmic, a little bit because I move around with everything I’ve heard and what I’ve been learning from life.

Tell us about some of your most enriching experiences?

There are many enriching experiences in the middle of the path of music, but the most enriching are sharing with musicians I admire such as Antonio Carmona, Sole Jiménez Alejandro Sanz, being in the tribute to Paco de Lucía with all the artists I admire, that has been the most enriching in my career.

What does it mean for you, to have genres like samba, jazz and others in your career when fusing them with vallenato?

It is to give a place my vallenato folklore, it is to put it in the places where I had always heard the music that I liked as a child, apart from my vallenato folklore, but it is as I always say, it is to dress it a little more in frac, it is to know that vallenato is universal music, that it is song, above all, that it is lyrics, that all these minstrels and authors, wrote to tell their stories through nature, love.

What does nominations mean to you in your artistic career?

Well, it is a very important meaning, also because it is the recognition of artists the most important award that musicians have in our career, right? And I have always been a little on the side of the road as Fito Páez says, to be recognized in the academy of the Latin Grammys is to know that I have always done things well and that I have believed in what I do, right? I have always been convinced that we have to do what we like and what makes us happy. Not doing things to be more famous or to be better known or whatever. The important thing is to make the music since from the from is what you get.

What artists would you like to record your music with? And why?

Well I have already recorded with a lot as I told you, but I would love to record with Rubén Blades, I would love to record with Yaban, with Gilberto Santa Rosa, well and so many musicians I have.

Singing!

Let’s talk a little bit about your new album, nominated for the Latin Grammy 2022.

It is an album that in the middle of the pandemic was recorded at the Teatro Colón in the city of Bogotá, it was interesting because there could be no audience, but I recorded it because I wanted to unite several of the artists that I also admire such as Cholo Valderrama, my compadre Fonseca and we recorded it with my band, resulting in the nomination for the Latin Grammys 2022.

From the personal

Are you happy?

Most of the time if I am happy, you can not say that all the time we are happy but most of the time I spend it laughing, then it is one of the most important branches of happiness, laugh at everything, that you do not stop being amazed by things, all that makes me happy to cook and be in the environment of what I love most.
