Freddy Rincón, former player of the Colombian National Team, dies

Former Colombian player Freddy Rincón died on Wednesday, April 13, according to the Imbanaco Clinic in the city of Cali

Rincon had been hospitalized since Monday, April 11, after the van in which he was traveling suffered a traffic accident and his health condition worsened.

The news generates consternation among family, friends, relatives and followers of the former player of the Colombian National Team.

According to the report of the Secretariat of Mobility of Cali, the accident would have occurred after the truck with license plates UGR 410 passed the red light. A version that also holds Jorge Eduardo Muñoz Beltrán, driver of the bus that was involved in the crash.

The doctor Laureano Quintero announced the death of the footballer at 11: 33 pm on Wednesday. He pointed out that all efforts were made, but the former footballer did not show improvement.

He added that “there is never any way to express what it means to lose a patient.” The doctor honored the extraordinary ability of Freddy Rincon and the joys he gave to Colombians and the world of football.

“The Imbanaco Grupo Quirónsalud Clinic with prior authorization and in the company of his relatives, it is allowed to inform the public that despite all the efforts made by our medical and care team, the patient Freddy Eusebio Rincón Valencia, has died today, April 13, 2022,” the clinic’s statement began.

“We deeply regret this sensitive event, while extending our deepest condolences to family, friends, loved ones and supporters.

There will never be a way to express what this really means to us, we invite the whole country to remember him with joy for everything he gave us in life with his sporting achievements.”

After learning the news of his death, the mayor of Cali, Jorge Iván Ospina, decreed three days of mourning in the city in order to pay tribute to one of the great legends of Colombian football.

“I have decreed 3 days of mourning in our city in the face of the painful death of Freddy Rincón. I have directed that the Secretaries of Government, Security and Justice and Communications be made available to the family to organize his funeral, “said Ospina.The mayor also announced that the Pascual Guerrero Stadium will be arranged for Rincon’s body to rest in a burning chamber.
