Perla M. Guerra For Luxury Trending
Perla M. Guerra is the founder and creative designer of the fashion brand “Perla la Baroque.” She creates custom made textile pieces that carry the message “I am PLB” as a reminder that we are all Powerful, Loved and Blessed, and we must believe in ourselves. Perla also is the co-founder and CEO of Kartal Construction Company, which specializes in all types of concrete foundation work.
She graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, and a Master’s of Science in Accounting. Her mother has always been her greatest influence. She aspired to accomplish many goals like going to college, so she pushed Perla and persuaded her to accomplish her dreams, and to attend graduate school.
Perla is a proud Life Member of the UH Alumni Association. She is a Lifetime Member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo where she serves on several committees. She is also an advocate for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). Two of her three daughters have Type 1 diabetes.
Her philanthropic work has resulted in recognition by Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner for significant contributions within the Houston community and her efforts to empower women. Pan American Roundtable of Houston (PART-H) has honored Perla as a “Distinguished Latina,” and She Said Foundation recognized her as a “game changer of the year” for making a difference in the fashion industry. CBBA Productions named her “designer of the year,” and she was honored by LCA Houston International Society at their annual Mother’s Day soirée – Woodlands Edition.
The advice Perla gives is also the message printed on each of her garments: I am Powerful, Loved and Blessed. “Always believe in yourself regardless of your circumstances, because you were created for a purpose. Know that we serve a powerful God that can do anything. He has loved you since you were in your mother’s womb and his blessings are endless.”
Her greatest motivation and inspiration come from her husband Jesus Antonio Guerra and her girls.
Perla would love to star in her own biopic, but given the choice of someone playing her role in a movie, it would be Denzel Washington. She says Denzel has a respectable film career and keeps his private life away from drama. He is renowned for his modesty, work ethic, and most importantly, his love for God.
Only those close to Perla know her ambition to play herself in a biopic is not such a stretch. “I’m an actress.” Recently, she’s completed a campaign for Methodist Hospital, with footage being used around the hospital, in magazines, and on billboards around the city. Perla has also performed in several movies as an extra, and she’s been a part of a Broadway-like Christmas Spectacular for several years.
