Entrepreneur Daisy Nguyen defines beauty, spreads joy, and injects confidence into every person she meets—balancing service and satisfaction.
Born and raised in South Vietnam, Daisy dreamed of becoming a model and imagined how it would be to wear different clothes and march down the catwalk. “Both my parents were doctors who worked for thirty-two years. My father was the director of the Medical Center and my mother was the head of the Obstetrics department. Despite their low wages which were not at par with the big hospitals, my parents had a heart for service and preferred to attend to, and treat patients in a small town where they lacked doctors and medical resources. I spent more time in the medical staff room than at home and saw first-hand the hard work and dedication of my parents to their patients and this instilled the value of helping others. I may not be a doctor, but helping others through my profession stems from their example,” she shares.
In 2013, Daisy migrated to America with limited resources and not a word of English. Her parents dreamed of a better future for their daughter and used all their savings so Daisy could achieve the American dream. “I am very grateful to my parents for their sacrifice to provide me with a bright future. Adjusting to a different culture and learning a new language, proved to be quite challenging for me. Yet, the once shy girl improved her communication skills and acquired more knowledge so I could adapt to the American lifestyle.” She smiles.
In 2015, Daisy and her business partner ventured into investing in a beauty salon and this is where Daisy became fascinated with the beauty industry and what it had to offer. After six months of familiarizing herself with the business, Daisy’s business partner quit and left her in charge to operate the business. “I was unwitting and naive about managing a business with minimal experience. I also had to address other issues like my landlord, taxes, attorney, licenses, and permits. In addition to that, my staff didn’t portray any confidence in me,” she reveals.
Yet, that setback didn’t hinder Daisy from acquiring all the pertinent qualifications to practice on her own. She remembered the hard work and determination her parents demonstrated. Equipped with courage and bravery, Daisy forged ahead to comply with the licensing and permit requirements. “I would work ten to twelve hours a day, and sometimes more. This meant a quick lunch in my car so I could attend to my work. Tears manifested due to loneliness and exhaustion,” she discloses.
The challenges of living in a new country and managing her business didn’t hamper Daisy’s drive to succeed. Instead, Daisy transformed this adversity into an opportunity―a breakthrough—knowing good things happen when you work hard. She learned the ins and outs of the business, enriched her beauty skills, and added more services―manicures/pedicures, facials, waxing, eyelash extension, and permanent eyebrows. To lay a deeper foundation, Daisy traveled to Europe and pursued online classes to hone her craft. “Although permanent makeup has been popular in Asia and Europe for a long time, it has been a new trend in the US for five years now,” she states.
Daisy chose to engage in the beauty industry and be a beauty specialist and eyebrow artist because the transformation in her clients equates to joy which sums up a meaningful life. She understands first-hand what her clients needs and uses accuracy and precision to master her craft so she can empower them. “As an eyebrow specialist, my goal is to help my clients save time. I’ve eliminated fifteen to thirty minutes of drawing and shaping their eyebrows so they can utilize those moments for other matters. Most of my clients have thanked me for their permanent brows which they confirm has changed their life and given them the reason to keep coming back for my services. This motivates and encourages me to work harder. When a client leaves with a big smile on their face, I know my work is complete. Integrating a stellar service with confidence and joy is my trademark―my signature stamp .” She smiles.
After two years of continued success, Daisy inaugurated her second company called, Brows Studio which is located in Palo Alto, California. Brows Studio provides eyebrow services which include microblading, microshading, ombré powder, etc. They also offer cosmetic services like lip blush and eyeliner. Other additional services are scalp microblading, eyebrow tattoo, eyebrow reshaping, eyebrow correction, and eyebrow maintenance. Daisy has an avid list of clients who have referred her to their family members, colleagues, and acquaintances who have sought information. “We offer a free consultation during the initial visit and I always go the extra mile to exceed my client’s expectations. My goal is to provide luxury and comfort which can intensify their inner beauty.” She beams.
Permanent brows are a work of art and Daisy works behind the scenes to work her magic. While every person has differently structured eyebrows, Daisy customizes her service to her client’s needs. “Based on their preference and their natural eyebrows structure, my job is to ensure the long-lasting effects on their natural skin with minimal risk or ramifications. With my client’s request, I produce a natural look, matched with the right shape and color for their eyebrows. Each time they rise, they feel confident and ready to face the day with their perfectly shaped eyebrows that can complement their style. It’s waterproof and looks great when swimming at the beach or pool,” she informs.
“My lip blushing and eyeliner services are semi-permanent makeup which is known to heighten one’s beauty. Their lipstick parallels a fresh and natural look and the eyeliner can awaken and brighten one’s eyes. All of my pigmentation and permanent makeup supplies have been tested and used in more than two thousand procedures with no allergies or side effects. I offer other products like the eyebrows pomade which can create a natural eyebrow look, 3d eyebrows, or laminated brows looks. My team, clients, and I have also used the eyelash extensions for years,” she explains.
With her desire to pass on what she has learned, Daisy spearheaded Daisy Nguyen Permanent Makeup & Academy where she offers a microblading and nano-shading plus ombre training course for three days from 11:00 am – 8:00 pm. Grateful for all the blessings she has rendered, empowering other women and giving back to the community is the way to pay it forward. “After opening my academy, students eagerly enrolled to learn the craft. My core team increased and kept growing. My clients became my students and my students became my assistants. I treat them like family and make them feel like the company is their home. They come to work feeling inspired, valued, and blessed,” she conveys.
For Daisy, the key to success is the ability to gather a group of positive, talented, ambitious, and supportive women together and make miracles happen. “I value the relationships I’ve established over the years—the people I’ve met—clients, employees, friends. My goal is to make their lives easier, increase their confidence, let them feel good about themselves, make them more attractive, be happier, and teach them to practice self-love each day. Working to just pay your bills is meaningless, but being surrounded by people who I can share, support, and laugh with brings true joy and is what I live for,” she imparts.
Looking back, this Vietnamese immigrant started her life with good values and work ethics from her parents― loyalty, thoughtfulness, hard work, and helping people. Carrying a piece of them with her to a new country so she could spread her wings may have been intimidating from the start, but Daisy knew how to thrive. The road Daisy traversed from the quiet girl to a successful entrepreneur depicted that she was once a gem that needed to be polished. “I came to America with nothing—no money, no family, no home. Instead, I had hope, faith, and courage to rely on, and slowly I envisioned what my life should be. I believed in myself and so should you,” she concludes.
Fortitude, tenacity, and perseverance correspond to what Daisy was made for. Every eyebrow she contours, eyeliner she applies, or lip that she colors, signifies her great intentions to make you feel beautiful, happy, and, loved. Daisy Nguyen is The Makeup Whisperer.
