Nadine Mirada is an international model with Austrian heritage. Nadine grew up with a younger brother in Linz, Austria. Like many girls, Nadine also dreamed of becoming a princess or a model. At the age of 3, she had her first campaign as a children’s model for Stummer. In her twenties, she was told she was either too small or too curvy for the current modeling agencies. From there, she got her degree in tourism and worked in Real Estate. But that burning desire to be an international model never went away.
In 2013, independently and without an agency, she created and advertised her sed card on Instagram. Her first modeling gig actually came via Instagram from an American e-commerce dealer. After that, her reach was so relevant that her Instagram profile was given the verified blue check mark.
Her big break as a model came in 2018 with the American jeans brand Guess Paul Marciano. In the same week, when she attended the Oscars as an influencers for SYOSS Henkel, she was invited for a test shoot at Guess Inc.’s Los Angeles headquarters. The Holiday Campaign 2018 by Guess was her first worldwide campaign. 30 years after fashionicon Claudia Schiffer, Nadine was described by Paul Marciano in the official press release as a “rising star”.
The hallmark of Nadine Mirada is her naturally beautiful, feminine curves. She is the first Austrian Curvy model to make the international breakthrough.
Symbol of the perfect curves of many teenage girls was and are models. For too long, the fashion world has been enclosed in a sort of bubble that did not accept femininity in its very essence and created an artificial impression of perfect curves. Fortunately, the situation has changed and the fashion industry has understood the important role of women in this sector.
One such symbol is the world-famous model Nadine Mirada. After establishing herself as a model, she vividly embodies the victory over doubters after completing her fourth Guess / Marciano campaign. “My natural curves are my unique personal offer,” she proudly added.
“My curves are 100% natural. I‘m a professional curvy photo and fashion model, with a passion for social media. I‘m authentic & work with brands that I can identify with personally and professionally.”
“With my approaching 344,000 followers, I am well known in our crazy and ever-changing social media universe! I work hard to stay on top of trends and best practices. I am also extremely selective in my partnerships, ensuring that my work is a true reprensentation of my daily life. Quality, luxury, travel and all things lifestyle are my passion – online and off. I no longer see myself as the typical, run of the mill blogger, but as a lifestyle ambassador. I enjoy the finer things in life; value a positive attitude above everything; and love providing people with a sneak peek behind the scenes at one-of- kind events. I am proud that the content and campaigns I create and participate in deliver good vibes and pure passion.”
Hello Nadine, how are you? Thanks for being our cover girl for our new issue of LAVISHLY STYLE Magazine. Are you working at the moment?
Thank you so much for choosing me as your cover girl. Actually I did my fourth Guess/Marciano campaign shooting and a few single projects for different brands who want to get the extra glamorous touch.
Did you always want to be a model?
This is definitely a YES! it was my biggest dream in my entire life!
Was it harder to be a model growing up?
I am always positive. In my teenage the model industry was not open for girls like me. I was too special. But I took the chance finished my college and started university. That pause in my career was good for me. Due to the fact that my body differs from the “classic model” type, I am incredibly proud to be a famous model today and break that mold. I feel like I am a symbol for millions of women around the world who have a body like mine – we should be proud and own it!
You come from Linz in upper Austria. That’s a long way from California! How did you get your start in modeling?
Luckily now with social media, California is much “closer” to Austria than it was before. But to backtrack a little bit, I actually shot my first campaign when I was 3 years old…so I’ve been modeling for quite some time.
I have always been into makeup, fashion and styling and I’ve really always wanted to be a model. However, my prominent eyebrows, big boobs and curves didn’t “fit the mold” in the past. Going on a strict diet or having any sort of cosmetic surgery to fit this previous ideal wasn’t an option for me. So I had to sit with that rejection, but I always knew that my time would come. But, as mentioned before, social media, specifically Instagram, became my stage and my 2nd chance to make this dream a reality. In 2017, I was invited to California for a test shoot and the rest is history. What is your current state of mind? It took me a bit longer to get to California than I would have planned, but I am so thankful that I’ve stayed true to myself and my body. I am really proud of the woman I have become and am really in tune with who I am both physically and mentally. I love my body and I feel good in it – no one can take that away from me.
You are the first Austrian Curvy model to make an international breakthrough, how does this make you feel?
It took me a bit longer to get to California than I would have planned, but I am so thankful that I’ve stayed true to myself and my body. I am really proud of the woman I have become and am really in tune with who I am both physically and mentally. I love my body and I feel good in it – no one can take that away from me.
You are 31, a bit older than most models. When did you start modeling?
I was in front of the camera for the first time at 3 years old. But as I got older, the industry just wasn’t very open to or accepting of healthy, natural curves. But I am really happy that the mentality of the industry has changed and I believe that my time is now. Even though I might be a bit older than most models, I am happy that I took the time to get a good education and develop my personality…both of which are really invaluable qualities to me.
Unlike many models, you went to College and worked before modeling. Can you tell us more about that? What did you study? And where did you work? How did those experiences influence your journey in modeling?
I got my degree in management and have my real estate license, too. I helped build up the international start-up company, Andmetics, as the Head of Social Media and I have 3 years of experience as a luxury real estate broker in Vienna. Additionally, because of my innate passion for fashion and beauty, I completed a training to become a makeup artist and have done that as a part-time job. My previous career experience has helped me become completely aware of what clients expect from a model, as well as learn how to successfully position a brand on the market. I’m really grateful I had the time to develop this professional expertise and gain insight on both sides of the coin: brand and model. It’s definitely a vital component for my career both now and in the future.
Have you changed from the younger you? Emotionally? Physically?
Emotionally I have definitely matured since I was younger. I can say with complete honesty that 10 years ago I would have hoped and dreamed to be exactly who I am today. I feel confident in myself, my body and my capabilities and love to share that with others. Physically I am really comfortable being in me – even despite the rejection I experienced early on in my career. Self care has always been a huge priority of mine. I go to sleep early, work out, stay away from alcohol and nourish my body with healthy foods. I believe this is a must for everyone no matter what your career goal is.
What have you learned along the way?
I’ve learned that it’s a great feeling to feel comfortable and “yourself” in your own skin. Self love really radiates outward and shines so bright! Additionally, I’ve learned the importance of remaining true to myself as well as treating others and myself with complete respect.
Modeling for Guess was an exciting moment in your career. Can you tell us how that came about?
I know! It’s truly a dream come true. I have always loved Guess and so I posted a picture of me wearing a Guess outfit on my Instagram account and I tagged the brand and Paul Marciano in the picture. I caught their attention and we connected for a test shoot when I was in Los Angeles for the Oscars. It’s quite a “simple” story, but that’s exactly how it happened.
Tell us about your Guess shoot. What part of the experience will you keep?
It was really such an incredible experience. From the professionalism to the attention to detail, I felt completely in my element. Guess is truly a unique brand and I felt that we vibed really well together. I am really proud of the outcome.
Do you feel there is a different vision of beauty in the U.S vs. Europe?
I feel that Americans are more open and courageous to take chances and “go against the norm” than Europeans.
You have said in the past that you struggled with your weight. How has that affected your path with modeling?
Although it may have been a bit more of a challenge for me to get here due to the fact that my body differs from the “classic model” type, I am incredibly proud to be a model and break that mold. I feel like I am a symbol for millions of women around the world who have a body like mine – we should be proud and own it!
What fashion advice do you have for curvier women?
Do not hide or be ashamed of your curves! An outfit always looks great when worn with personality and confidence – both of which have nothing to do with body type or measurements. But when it comes to actually choosing the outfit, don’t hide your body with oversized, tent-like clothing. Instead, focus on really emphasizing your own, unique silhouette by highlighting parts of your body that you love and want to show off. Overall, a well-groomed appearance, great shoes and carefully selected accessories (especially jewelry) give every outfit that perfect touch.
You have exceptionally beautiful skin— What are the three key things you do for your beauty routine?
1. I always have a hydrating mist in my bag.
2. I always remove my makeup thoroughly with a good quality face wash and never forget to moisturize.
3. Water is so important! I drink a lot of water to keep my skin (and body) hydrated, looking young and fresh.
Who is your biggest role model?
My mom. She’s my heart and soul and greatest support.
What is your advice to young models coming into the business?
Set clear goals and stay focused on them. And remember that sometimes it’s the things that you don’t do in order to stay true to yourself and your values that lead to success in the end.
What do you think about the message that the fashion world is giving to all women around the world nowadays?
I feel that Americans are more open and courageous to take chances and “go against the norm” than Europeans.
Did you struggle a lot to reach your goals?
Not really. Of course there are always ups and downs in life. I have a clear vision for my life and always keep my mind focused on my dreams. Maybe this is one of my secrets for a happy life.
What helped you in your journey to become a world famous model?
I found out, that if I want to shine glamorous on the outside I have to feel happy and self-confident in the inside. Additionally, I’ve learned the importance of remaining true to myself as well as treating others and myself with complete respect and send the love I want to get back.
Tell us something we don’t know about you.
Mmmhhh… Interesting question. A secret? I love shoes – this is not very special, I know Especially high-heels, the higher the better.
What do you think about plastic surgery? Would you or have you ever considered it?
No! My natural curves are my unique personal proposition. And luckily I have amazing genes from my mother. I have no wrinkles screaming for botox or something else.
Do you choose the brands you work with or do they choose you for their campaign?
As well … as. It is important to me that the brands are consistent with my values and my person. Glamorous natural curves I live, that’s me and that’s what my clients feel. The normal way is that the customers choose me. Because of my experience and what I send out. But I also have several brands on my wish list and hope that I can represent them all in the nearest future.
What’s the most important catwalk you worked on?
Guess and Vienna Fashion week.
