Tell us more about yourself and your brand. What’s the meaning behind the name “Yaya”?
“Yaya is the name that I’ve had since I was a baby, it was my little nickname.”
How did you get to where you are today with opening up your beauty bar?
“It is something I always wanted to do and accomplish for myself. Since I was a little girl, I was into hair and beauty. I used to do hair in my Mom’s garage when I was eighteen years old. Last year I finally decided to open Bloom Glam.”
Being the owner of a successful beauty business, “Boom Glam”, what does beauty mean to you?
“I love making people feel beautiful. I named it “Boom Glam” because of the meaning when flowers bloom, they look beautiful. I wanted to tie this to the concept for everyone to bloom after they left my salon. Beauty means a lot to me. It is not just looks, it means inner beauty too like beautiful souls and beautiful people. When it does come to the appearance, looking good means feeling good.”
What differentiates you from other women entrepreneurs?
“A lot comes with my humbleness and with the way I accept everyone. I give everybody an opportunity. I am never satisfied, there is always room for more.”
What advice would you give to young women entrepreneurs looking to go into beauty?
“Stay consistent. I got distracted so many times for the wrong reasons. I would advise them to stay consistent and love what you do.”
If you could describe your life in a song what would it be and why?
“The song ‘Survivor’ by Destiny’s Child. Whatever I go through in life, I always come out of it. It does not matter what it is. I always come back and stronger.”
What is next in Yaya’s World?
“I have a lot of “Bloom Glam” products coming out. I want to get married and have more kids. I want to focus on my own fairytale.”
