Our readers would love to get to know you a bit better. Can you share with us the backstory of how you came upon this career path and to where you are today?
Firstly I’d like to thank all of you for this amazing opportunity to be in your magazine. I cannot wait to share my images and this article with all your readers.
A little back story about me….I was born in New York City but moved back to my parents home country Brazil when I was 8 years old. I then lived between Brazil and the USA until I was 12 years old. We then moved full time to Brazil where I attended and completed high school in Rio De Janeiro Brazil. At the age of 16 only a few days before my 17th birthday we moved back to New York City. I attended Hunter College where I pursued a major in psychology. My dream was to go to Medical school and one day become a Doctor. In my teens I competed in pageants. I competed and won Miss Niterói and Miss Teen Rio.
When living in New York I entered the Miss New York Pageant but never went to the finals. One day while taking the train on 34th street I got scouted by a modeling agency and got invited to audition for fashion week. I did a fitting for a Brazilian Designer Carlos Miele. He booked me to open his show wearing the most amazing custom fitted gown. I then began booking catalogs, magazines, commercials, music videos.
Everything started to excel very very fast. I began booking campaigns and work and having to miss classes. I then decided I would take a year off school and pursue my thriving career in modeling. I was busy. Working non stop. Traveling around the world doing campaigns, commercials, magazine covers etc… at the age of 20 I was double booked for a Red Hot Chilli Peppers music video and Chris Brown Wall to Wall.
Where I was the feature model in both music videos. I fell in love with California and decided to move there. The Chris Brown Wall to Wall video was #1 in all the top charts in its category for 10 weeks in a row. I won video vixen of the year three years in a row and eye candy of the year two years in the row. I have since then been a main feature in over 52 music videos, dozens of commercials, ad campaigns.
I have graced Various Magazine covers and spreads over the years. In 2008 I started designing my own clothing line called Bombshells By Suelyn. Bombshells is a line that brings out the bombshell in every woman. From sizes XS to XL. A line that accentuates every woman’s shape highlighting her best curves. A woman’s line of outerwear, fitnesswear, swimwear. For bombshells that are proud to show off their curves. In 2011 I finished writing and published my first book.
My Secrets Revealed by Suelyn Medeiros. Where I share my true stories in hope to motivate and inspire even if but one person. There is A lot people don’t know about me and a lot people assume. I wanted to set the record straight and share some of my deepest secrets, mistakes, heartaches up to that point. I also had a lot of great accomplishments to share.
My book was a way to share my process and help inspire. Since then I have written three additional books that have not yet been published. I thank God for protecting me and giving me the strength to dive into all my given opportunities. I thank myself for never giving up for always believing in myself, for never letting others keep me down. For those times when life knocked down I found the strength to get up stronger than ever.
I am thankful for my parents, for giving me love, for teaching me even when sometimes the greatest lessons was through their mistakes. I thank everyone who believed in me for everyone who saw something in me and gave me the opportunity to be myself and share it with the world. I even thank my jealous exes who have tried to stop me from perusing my career. Who have tried to in many ways get in the way of my individual success. Who have tried to take my shine away. A Diamond is a chunk of coal that is made best under a great amount of pressure. Although I have come a long way and have been through so much.
I still believe this is only the beginning of what’s next for me. I’m so excited for what’s next even though it’s a unknown mystery. I am fearless to dive into the unknown and I always end up somewhere better than imagined. Self promotion is very important but I don’t believe in over promoting myself. I like to leave my mark where ever I go. Leave a Suelyn sparkle with whoever I meet. That’s the way I promote myself best.
When I started modeling social media did not exist. I have successfully found a way to transition from one era to another.
I have always admired Barbie growing up. I wanted to be Barbie growing up. Barbie could do anything. She could have any career and life she wanted. She was independent and dressed impeccable at every occasion. That was my idol growing up.
I’m a mother to the most amazing boy in the world. My son Joseph will be 9 this year. For many reasons his father and I have decided to keep him away from the public eye in the last few years and going forward.
I love cooking and creating in the kitchen. My favorite ingredient is “love”. I have a cooking project and recipe book coming soon…
There is so much more people don’t know about me. I’ve been very busy in the last few years. I have some very exciting upcoming projects that I cannot wait to share.
