Reebok and New York-based apparel label Engineered Garments have unveiled their collaborative three-piece LX2200 sneaker capsule, bringing elements of earth and material combinations to the ’80s-inspired runner. The Engineered Garments x Reebok LX2200 ($140 – FZ5846, FZ5847, FZ5848) will be available exclusively at Engineered Garments on December 8, then worldwide on Reebok.com and select retailers on December 10.
Reebok’s LX2200, launched last summer, is a modern, upscale version of the brand’s luxury running shoe, the LX8500, which debuted in 1985. Today, in the spirit of reinterpretation, Engineered Garments applies its unique design language to the classic road shoe, featuring mismatched stitching patterns and outdoor-inspired colors and graphics consistent with the “EG” brand.
“To design this shoe, we utilized basic earth colors and applied our traditional brand aesthetic through material mixtures and an asymmetrical color scheme,” commented Daiki Suzuki, Founder of Engineered Garments.
For over two decades, Suzuki’s Engineered Garments has been exploring the cutting edge of workwear formalism through apparel design. The result was a patchwork of complementary patterns—madras, polka dots, florals, Prince of Wales check—in menswear in taffeta, nylon ripstop, twill or satin. The brand melds all things American, borrowing elements of Depression-era suiting and mid-70s military detailing, to create an aesthetic that – through strong incongruity with historical references – is equally relevant to homes past and present.
The photo campaign visually brings the product and story to life and sheds light on New York’s hidden spots that are so dear to Engineered Garments.
“We wanted to highlight elements of New York City that are not normally seen in campaigns,” continued Suzuki. “In particular, Flushing Meadows, home of the 1939 and 1964 World’s Fair Grounds, was a setting that felt genuine as it has so much historical significance.”
The Engineered Garments x Reebok LX2200 ($140 – FZ5846, FZ5847, FZ5848) is available December 8 exclusively from Engineered Garments before its wider global release December 10 from Reebok.com and select retailers.
