(Munich, November 21, 2022) Bentley Motors is presenting two very special vehicles at this weekend’s Auto e Moto d’Epoca in Italy. The legendary S1 Continental Flying Spur and the 2021 Flying Spur Hybrid Odyssean Edition complete the story of a four-door sedan that has been at the forefront of luxury automobiles for almost 70 years.
The classic S1 dates back to the 1952 two-door R-Type Continental. This groundbreaking model is the result of a collaboration between Bentley’s chief designer JP Blatchley and engineer Ivan Evernden. Her unofficial design caused quite a stir at launch, with a sleek hull and the ability to cruise at 100 mph all day.
Coachbuilder HJ Mulliner later extended the same Continental formula to the more practical 1958 S1 Continental Flying Spur now on display in Padua. The S1 will be on display in the newly opened Heritage Garage at Bentley’s headquarters in Crewe, England. The facility includes 34 complete cult vehicles and is open to colleagues, customers and guests.
Introduced alongside the S1, the Limited Edition introduced the new Flying Spur Hybrid in 2021, which has since been available in all European markets. With an exclusive interior and exterior, the Odyssean Edition is Bentley’s first production car to be inspired by the EXP 100 GT concept car.
A symbol of sustainable design, the Odyssean Edition was created without compromising Bentley’s renowned character and know-how. It features exquisite craftsmanship that pushes the boundaries of custom sewing with graduated seat embroidery. Additionally, the Odyssean Edition was Bentley’s first step in introducing new sustainable materials as part of its industry-leading Beyond100 strategy.
Balazs Rooz, Regional Director, Bentley Motors Europe, commented:
“We are delighted to present two very special Bentleys at Europe’s largest classic car and parts event. Our 1958 S1 and Flying Spur Hybrid Odyssean represent the finest luxury station wagons from different eras. We hope Italian customers and fans enjoy getting to know both over the weekend.”
Auto e Moto d’Epoca (autoemotodepoca.com) is Europe’s largest market for classic cars and parts and the main event of the motoring calendar for motorists.
