Ingolstadt, January 10, 2023 – Audi was again able to significantly increase deliveries of purely electric vehicles in 2022: With an increase of around 44% , the brand has consistently continued its electrification strategy and thus continued on course in a year marked by global crises. Overall, Audi sold more than 1.61 million vehicles last year, almost reaching the previous year’s level despite long supply interruptions and serious problems in the supply chain. Audi has surpassed 2021 results in Europe, Germany and other key markets.

“The strong numbers for the all-electric models show us that our clear focus on electric mobility is the right path,” says Hildegard Wortmann, Member of the Board of Management for Sales and Marketing at AUDI AG. Overall, Audi delivered 118,196 electric models to customers last year, which is 44.3 percent more than in 2021.

The strong demand for the fully electric models Audi Q4 e-tron, Audi e-tron GT quattro and Audi e-tron confirms the company’s clear commitment to a fully electric future and will strengthen Audi’s momentum to become a reliable premium mobility provider. The new model is already in the starting blocks: The new Audi Q8 e-tron continues the success story of the Audi e-tron as a pioneer of electric vehicles. The model has already received many pre-orders ahead of its launch in Spring 2023. From 2026, Audi will only bring purely electric vehicles onto the world market.

“In a challenging and dynamic environment, our global team once again proved its resilience in 2022,” says Hildegard Wortmann. “Thanks to extraordinary team spirit, operational excellence and effective sales control, we were able to close out the business year successfully.”

In addition to the fully electric models, the Audi A3 (+12.1%), the Audi A4 (+8.0%) and the Audi Q5 (+2.7%) grew in the overall portfolio. The 4,444 Audi Sport 2022 were also a special year: 45,515 high-performance vehicles delivered marked a new record and an increase of 15.6% compared to the previous year.

With 624,498 vehicles delivered to Europe, Audi was able to increase sales by 1.2 percent compared to 2021. Here, too, demand for all-electric models increased, especially for the Audi Q4 e-tron (+99.4 percent), Audi e-tron GT (+29.2 percent) and Audi e-tron (+8.5 percent). Audi Sport contributed to the strong result with a record 29,417 vehicles delivered in Europe (+30.8 percent). Overall, sales in 29 European markets were higher than in the previous year.

Sales in Germany made a particularly strong contribution to the positive momentum in Europe (214,678 vehicles, +18.7%). Most of these were a significantly increased range of all-electric models (+87.8%). The company has significantly expanded its market share here, among other things due to a sharp increase in the range of fully electric models (+87.8%).

Audi Sport also set a new record in the company’s home market with 12,993 models sold and an increase of 43%.

Demand for all-electric Audi models in the US was higher than ever in 2022. This is evidenced by a record 16,177 vehicle sales, up 47.3% from 2021. 7.2 percent. Since the market launch of the Audi Q4 e-tron and the Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron, Audi has had the largest portfolio of electric vehicles on the market. Due to logistics and delivery bottlenecks, the total number of vehicles delivered in the USA was 186,875, slightly below the previous year’s figure (-4.7%). However, consumer demand remains high.

In total, the company delivered 642,548 vehicles to China, 8.4% fewer than in the previous year. The reason for the decline was ongoing supply bottlenecks, especially for semiconductors, and production restrictions due to COVID-19. The restrictions caused by the Covid pandemic are also being felt by retailers in the temporary closure of showrooms. The number of fully electric models delivered rose by 9.8 percent. In 2022, the company successfully expanded its electric vehicle portfolio in China with the launch of the new Audi Q5 e-tron Roadjet, Audi Q4 e-tron and Audi RS e-tron GT*. Further increases were achieved by the Audi A3 (+10.0%), Audi A4 (+14.9%) and Audi Q5 (+4.5%).

Demand for all-electric models in other markets around the world rose by 90.2 percent. In total, Audi delivered 160,310 vehicles (-3.5%) to these markets, which are affected not only by supply chain problems and current logistics bottlenecks but also by geopolitical crises. The company achieved significant growth above all in the Middle East (+47.9%), India (+27.1%) and Taiwan (+22.2%).

“Even though we’re still facing global economic challenges, we’re looking toward the future with confidence,” says Hildegard Wortmann. “That’s because we’re going into 2023, during which we will accelerate the transformation together, with an attractive portfolio, a large number of orders and a highly motivated team.”
