For the Dior Cruise 2023 line, Maria Grazia Chiuri chose Seville as a new destination and source of inspiration. Full of multi-faceted creativity and the city’s priceless heritage, the silhouettes designed by the Artistic Director are revealed in stunning images by photographer Laura Sciacovelli.

Between light and shadow, in the dreamy atmosphere of the palaces of Seville, the images embody a passionate dialogue between the craftsmanship of the Dior workshop and the richness of Andalusian craftsmanship. The essence of flamenco is captured in shimmering taffeta dresses complemented by eye-catching ruffles, an ode to freedom of movement. The outfits, reminiscent of the character of dancer Carmen Amaya, go beyond the male and female dress code. Hats, leggings, capes and boleros, richly adorned with brandebours and embellishments, pair with cutting-edge trousers that combine sportswear influences with equestrian grace.

Like Ariadne’s enchanting threads, the embroidery unfolds endlessly, transforming the iconic bar jacket, embellished with pankou buttons in homage to Chinese culture, and blossoming on Maison creations such as Lady Dior, illuminated with virtuoso motifs. At the crossroads of haute couture and sculpture, Saddle showcases a leatherworking technique borrowed from saddlery, blending traditional Andalusian flair with contemporary Dior style. Emblems of Sevillian elegance, the manila scarf*, mantilla and leather gloves have been reinvented by the creative director for an added touch of sophistication. As an exquisite detail, the Dior signature is applied to lace fans in a poetic play of texture and translucency.

An exciting journey that brings together exceptional arts and crafts and, more than ever, forges the precious bonds that unite the world’s cultures. No.

* Manila shawls, made using Chinese embroidery techniques, were imported to Seville from the Philippines in the 17th century.
