Burberry’s Fall/Winter 2022 campaign captures the power of community, bringing models together with their individual personalities. Bold imagery and film accentuate the series’ themes in the bright Los Angeles sun and harness the power of self-expression to forge unity.
The campaign is a study of different identities based on the House’s code of duality. The combination of an advanced studio shot of the women’s collection and a candid outdoor shot of the men’s collection showcases a bold reorganization of different Burberry codes and new future-proof products.
Burberry Chief Creative Officer Riccardo Tisci reunites with photographer duo, brand friends Inez and Vinoodh to further explore his avant-garde approach to the brand, while stylist Lotta Volkova defines the attitude expressed in the collection and offers new perspectives.
The classic women’s trench coat takes an interesting twist on its heritage, reimagined as a voluminous strapless gown with signature detailing, while the chain link car jacket is brought to life. In womenswear, waxed cotton coats and field jackets were paired with vintage floral lace corset tops in candy pink and red, with pleated skirts, black leather bodysuits and skirts. The Lola bag is also part of the campaign, which celebrates the heritage of the brand and its founder, Thomas Burberry.
For menswear, dark brown hooded duffel coats were paired with exaggerated leather straps and trim, while tailored high-waisted trousers were paired with polo shirts and cotton poplin shirts, as well as floor-length skirts in diamond-encrusted quilted fabric.
In a modern reinterpretation of the equestrian knight design – a symbol of our community spirit, revived from the Burberry archive and highlighted across all collections – the campaign’s members are members of the Compton Cowboys, a company based in Black-owned nonprofit organization in Los Angeles. As part of the partnership, Burberry will make a donation to support the organization’s mission to empower local African American communities through equestrian sport and a connection to nature to challenge stereotypes and develop lasting skills.
