Gigi Dia is an acclaimed actress. She was born and raised in France. Over the past year, she booked a major commercial and 5 films, 4 of them currently running in international festivals.
From an early age, she discovered her love to stories whether they were in books or films.
She began acting in 2016, and her first gig was the film NIOFAR, where she played a young foreign girl from Senegal freshly arrived to France. The short film was a success. It got 21 official selections in some of the top film festivals around the world such as Cannes Film Festival and Sundance. It won 6 awards.
She also stars as a student during the final eloquence contest at Science Po in the movie UN HOMME PRESSEE with Leïla Bekhti and Fabrice Luccini and was a guest in the movie MISSION IMPOSSIBLE -FALLOUT directed by Christopher McQuarrie.
This experience made her want to study acting and learn everything about the industry to be the best in her craft. She loves travelling and getting out of her comfort zone so she moved in Los Angeles, the capital of entertainment, to study acting at UCLA.
She studied acting, marketing, and production. During her program, she starred in 3 short films and 2 are currently running in festivals. She works internationally, and traveled to France for the film NUMÉRO 10/NUMBER 10 to play AICHA, a soccer player. This part was very important for her as the movie is about a woman that wants to become a soccer player, but because she’s a woman, nobody takes her. She believes that whether you are a man or woman you should be able to do anything you want. The film has currently 3 official selections.
She also stars in The Daily Dreamer, a UCLA thesis film that talks about an interview with a mysterious art maven that turns into a psychedelic journey to the border between the real and illusory worlds. The film was a success and has so far 4 official selections from California, through Europe and all the way to Russia. The festivals are Marina Del Rey Film Festival 2019, Moscow Shorts Film Festival 2019, Golden State Film Festival 2020 and Esoteric Film Festival 2020.
Since she graduated in September 2019, everything went by very fast. Once her OPT started, she booked her first major commercial for BEAUTY BLENDER and SEPHORA. She’s very grateful to represent the brand, the commercial promotes their new concealer available in 40 shades. From the lightest skins to the darkest ones. And for her it’s important to be part of this campaign as she believes every skin deserve to be represented.
She also booked a role as a vendor on the HBO show INSECURE with Issa Rae and finishes the year playing the main role in the film EATING LISA. Eating Lisa is the story of Gamalielle, who goes on a mission to steal and eating the famous painting Mona Lisa. “To me it was very funny to play this as a French person. And I literally had to eat a picture of Mona Lisa, so that was also a great experience.” Says Gigi. The film currently runs in festival and got 1 official selection so far.
In early 2020 she played the role of a reporter in the upcoming movie The Prom, directed by Ryan Murphy and for the network Netflix. She worked on set with Kerry Washington and Meryl Street. With covid_19, all productions stopped, so she got a project on hold and can’t to get back on set until everything starts to open up.
